A DUI conviction could throw a wrench into your future plans

| Oct 19, 2020 | DUI

As a young driver, you would find it disturbing enough for law enforcement to stop you on suspicion of DUI, but there could be more trouble ahead.

A conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol will appear on your record for anyone to see and could disrupt your life and plans for the future.

Education issues

If you are still in high school and have not yet applied to the college of your choice, you may find the application process more difficult because of the DUI mark on your record. If you are already a college student with your eye on a particular career path, keep in mind that the DUI may disqualify you from obtaining the state licensing or certification you need for certain professions, including education, medicine and law.

Employment woes

If you are a member of the workforce and your responsibilities include driving for the company, you may lose your job when your employer discovers the DUI on your record. This is an issue that may also arise when you apply for a job since recruiters routinely perform background checks on applicants. Even if you have the proper qualifications, the recruiter may find another applicant with a clean record more suitable for the position.

Auto insurance problems

The DUI may also classify you as a high-risk driver in the eyes of your auto insurance company. The insurer may either cancel your policy or issue a new one at a much higher rate.

Defense plans

You cannot afford an obstacle like a drunk driving conviction to affect your future. Remember that you have rights, and if law enforcement arrests you on suspicion of DUI you will want the best defense available for your case.
